xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, is currently testing a dedicated app for its chatbot, Grok. This iOS app is presently in beta and is being rolled out in select regions only. According to reports that surfaced on Sunday, the app will integrate features from the newly launched AI-powered image generator, Aurora, enabling users to receive image outputs along with text responses. Earlier this month, Grok was made available at no cost to all users of X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
xAI Unveils Beta Version of Grok App for iOS
Last month, sources indicated that xAI aimed to develop a standalone application for Grok to position the AI model as an independent entity. Previously, users could only access the chatbot through the X platform. This latest development allows for direct interaction with Grok without needing the social media app.
Currently, Grok is available exclusively on the iOS App Store, with a listing discovered in the Australian market. There has been no confirmation of its availability in any other regions, as staff members from Gadgets 360 were unable to locate the app in India.
The beta version of the iOS app does not have an announced date for a stable global release. The app’s details reveal that it operates on the Grok 2 AI model and can be used free of charge. Users can input both text and images, generating corresponding outputs, likely utilizing the Aurora image generation model for visual content.
Moreover, the Grok Beta iOS application is capable of addressing questions that require real-time information. The chatbot sources its data from both the X platform and the web. Users also have the option to modify Grok’s conversational tone and activate a ‘Fun Mode’ that delivers humorous and satirical replies to their queries.
As there has been no official announcement regarding the standalone Grok app, it remains uncertain whether xAI has plans for an Android version of the chatbot.
