The microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has unveiled a new feature designed for sharing long-form written content, although access is currently limited to a select group of users. The feature, called Articles, is exclusive to subscribers of X Premium+ and verified organizations.
In an announcement on the platform, X revealed that the Article feature will become available on March 8 for Premium+ users and verified entities. This new capability will enable these users to craft and distribute extended content directly to their followers. To access the Article composer, users can navigate to the Articles section located in the sidebar of the web version of X.
Users will be able to utilize various formatting options while composing their Articles, including bold and italic text, strikethrough effects, bullet points, and numbered lists. Additionally, there is the capability to embed images, videos, or even other posts from X within the articles. A report from Engadget indicates that Articles can be as long as 100,000 characters, which translates to approximately 15,000 words.
Once published, Articles will be displayed on users’ profiles under a dedicated Articles tab and will also appear on the timelines of their followers. These Articles will have distinguishing features due to a unique icon and layout, setting them apart from standard posts on the platform.
Users will have the ability to edit or delete their Articles after publication. To modify a published Article, users simply need to go to the Article in question or their Published timeline in the Article composer, then select the three-dot menu followed by Edit Article and Confirm to unpublish it. After making the necessary edits, the Article can be republished. For deletion, users will find the Delete option within the same three-dot menu.
