The social media platform now known as X, previously identified as Twitter, is undergoing significant changes under the direction of Elon Musk. In July, the platform transitioned from its recognizable blue bird logo to a new X logo. Recently, a user highlighted that URLs generated from the X app’s share sheet on iOS now start with X.com, replacing the former domain twitter.com. Musk initiated the rebranding of Twitter to X last month, and the mobile application icon for the platform on both Android and iOS has also been updated to reflect this change. Additionally, posts that were previously referred to as tweets have been renamed to posts.
Musk’s initiative to shift toward X.com is becoming more apparent. According to a report by Technology News, URLs produced from the share sheet within the iOS app have begun to utilize X.com. However, users accessing the web link or using the Android app are still being redirected to the legacy twitter.com domain. Changes regarding this redirection might occur soon.
Musk has previously confirmed that X.com would redirect users to Twitter. Since acquiring the platform for $44 billion in October of last year, he has enacted numerous changes including the introduction of the new brand identity and the renaming of content shared on the platform from tweets to posts. Despite these changes, the subscription service remains titled Twitter Blue.
The platform is currently grappling with declining advertisement revenue and faced substantial backlash earlier in July when Musk limited the volume of posts users could view. He also confined access to TweetDeck to only verified accounts, drawing ire from both users and marketing experts alike.
