Wooting is gearing up to unveil the next generation of its acclaimed gaming keyboard, the 60HE v2, which boasts several enhancements compared to its predecessor released three years ago. Set to launch later this year, the new model will feature true 8K polling, a novel closed-bottom switch, and a sturdy aluminum casing, all contributing to a more responsive and satisfying user experience.
The inaugural 60HE was pivotal in introducing Hall effect switches and a Rapid Trigger system, enhancing key activation speed and benefiting competitive PC gamers. This innovation spurred competitors like Keychron, Corsair, and SteelSeries to develop their own keyboards featuring similar technologies.
The 60HE v2 aims to surpass its predecessor’s performance by implementing true 8K polling and achieving an impressively low input latency of just 0.125ms, which mirrors the specs of the larger Wooting 80HE introduced last year.
The new model will also incorporate Wooting’s exclusive “Lekker Tikken” switch, which is a closed-bottom Hall effect switch featuring a 4.0 mm actuation range. Unlike traditional switches, Hall effect technology employs magnets to detect keystrokes, a feature that has, to date, resulted in a less favorable sound profile compared to Cherry MX-style switches. However, Wooting is confident that this updated switch will deliver a “uniquely marbly sound signature” thanks to advancements in Hall effect switch design.
With regards to sound and typing experience, Wooting has implemented a PET film layer beneath the new switches and added a Poron sandwich pad between the plate and printed circuit board (PCB), both aimed at minimizing vibrations. Additionally, users will have the choice to switch between a silicone block for quieter sounds or an EPDM foam block for a more resonant typing experience.
The 60HE v2 will also cater to users who prefer a split-spacebar layout, and it comes encased in an attractive aluminum housing. True to its predecessor, the new model will allow for extensive customization and remain compatible with a variety of aftermarket keyboards and accessories.
Wooting’s CEO, Calder Limmen, expressed gratitude towards the community, stating, “The original 60HE wouldn’t have happened without our community, and neither would this. We’ve learned a lot since the first release. The 60HE v2 is the next step.”
The anticipated launch date for the Wooting 60HE v2 is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, although specifics regarding pricing and an exact release date have not yet been disclosed.
