Microsoft has acknowledged that the recent Windows 11 update is causing malfunctions in several Ubisoft games. Users installing Windows 11, version 24H2, have reported issues with titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Both Microsoft and Ubisoft are actively working to address these problems, with Microsoft implementing a hold on the update for devices that have the affected games installed.
Problems Arise for Ubisoft Games Following Windows 11 Update
The company outlined the situation in a support post on its official website, detailing known issues with Windows 11, version 24H2. It confirmed that the update is leading to unresponsive gameplay for certain Ubisoft titles.
According to the support post, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games could become unresponsive at startup, during loading, or while playing. In several instances, users may face a black screen.”
The games impacted include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To mitigate problems for users, Microsoft has placed a compatibility block on systems running these specific titles. “These devices will not be offered the option to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update channel,” the company stated.
Users are further advised against using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool to manually update to version 24H2 until the issue is resolved. Microsoft is collaborating with Ubisoft to develop a solution.
In the interim, Ubisoft has provided a temporary patch for Star Wars Outlaws in a recent update, aimed at preventing the game from freezing. However, Microsoft cautioned that players might continue to experience performance issues with the title.
For those who have already updated and are encountering problems with Ubisoft games, Windows 11 users can utilize Task Manager to terminate any unresponsive game applications.
The phased rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2, the third major update for the operating system, began in October.
