Last week, Microsoft launched its latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build to the Dev channel, introducing two innovative artificial intelligence (AI) features for users. The update includes the rollout of AI agents within Windows 11, capable of autonomously identifying and implementing changes in the Settings menu based on user instructions. Another notable addition is the ability to share Recall snapshots with third-party applications and websites for users located in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Windows 11 to Introduce AI Agents

In a recent blog post, Microsoft outlined the new updates, highlighting the AI agents feature. Currently, this feature is exclusively available to users enrolled in the Windows Insider Programme and those who have chosen the Dev Channel for their updates. Additionally, a Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PC is necessary to utilize this feature.

With the implementation of AI agents, users can easily communicate desired changes in the Settings menu. For instance, a user might type “my mouse pointer is too small,” and the AI agent will propose the appropriate steps to address the problem. With the user’s consent, the agent can also perform the task autonomously, streamlining the user experience. Microsoft has indicated that this feature is functional only when the device’s primary display language is set to English, with plans to extend support to Copilot+ PCs using AMD and Intel chipsets in the near future.

An additional feature introduced for EEA users is the Recall sharing capability. Windows Insiders in this region can now export their Recall snapshots and share them with third-party services. Users must remember their unique Recall export code, which is displayed when they first open Recall and choose to save their screenshots.

To share Recall snapshots with an external vendor, users must first authenticate through Windows Hello and then provide the export code, which unencrypts the saved screenshots. It is important to note that the export code is only provided once during the initial set-up of the feature. According to the blog post, “Microsoft does not have access to your export code and cannot help you recover it if it is lost.”

In cases where users misplace the export code or suspect unauthorized access, they have the option to reset Recall. This reset process will erase all existing screenshots and revert the feature settings to default. After completing the reset, users can reopen the feature to obtain a new export code.

To export snapshots, users should navigate to Settings, proceed to Privacy & Security, and locate Recall & Snapshots. From there, they can access Advanced Settings to start the export process following authentication. Users have two options for sharing Recall data: the first allows for the export of past snapshots from specific timeframes (the last seven days, last 30 days, or all past data), and the second option enables continuous export of snapshots moving forward. Users may opt out of sharing at any point.
