WhatsApp began the rollout of dark mode for its Web version in 2020. The popular messaging service is now reportedly working on a revamped color scheme and an updated sidebar specifically for the dark theme. This new interface aims to enhance the user experience for WhatsApp Web, particularly in low-light environments, by minimizing eye strain. However, this forthcoming update has not been officially confirmed by WhatsApp and is not yet accessible to beta testers.
A recent report from WABetaInfo indicates that WhatsApp is currently testing a new background color for its Web version’s dark theme, along with a redesigned sidebar. These enhancements are expected to improve usability during nighttime or dim conditions, thereby providing a more comfortable messaging experience.
The revamped interface has yet to reach testers but is anticipated to be included in a forthcoming update of WhatsApp Web. The report also showcases a preview of the anticipated color scheme for the dark mode, which will likely feature changes across the top bar, background, and message bubbles.
In related updates, Meta has rolled out a variety of new features for its messaging platform recently. Earlier this month, the company introduced a Pinned Messages feature, allowing users to highlight a specific message in one-on-one or group chats, keeping it at the top of the conversation for up to 30 days. Additionally, WhatsApp now offers a View Once option for voice messages, permitting users to send voice notes that disappear after the recipient listens to them.
Looking ahead, WhatsApp may soon introduce the ability for users to post status updates from the Web version or via linked ‘companion’ devices. The platform is also reportedly working on a feature for sharing HD images and videos within status updates.
