In 2023, WhatsApp launched its Instant Video Notes feature, allowing users to send 60-second video messages within chats. Now, the messaging app is reportedly enhancing this capability by introducing a quick reply option for these video notes. This new functionality has been spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp for Android, shortly after the announcement of an upcoming in-app dialer for the Calls tab.
Quick Replies for Video Notes
According to WABetaInfo, a popular tracker for app features, a fresh icon has been added next to the instant video message feature. This enhancement is designed to streamline the process of replying to the sender. The update was identified in the WhatsApp beta app version 2.24.14.5 for Android.
Currently, users must manually access the message menu to respond to a specific video message. The anticipated update aims to simplify this interaction, enabling users to respond quickly by tapping the new icon and continuing their conversation seamlessly.
The new quick replies for Instant Video Notes are reportedly accessible to certain beta testers using the latest WhatsApp beta version through the Google Play Beta program. Staff members from Gadgets 360 were among those who gained access to this feature, observing the addition of a quick reply button adjacent to the video messages.
Upcoming In-App Dialer
In addition to the quick reply feature, WhatsApp is said to be working on an in-app dialer designed to enhance users’ calling experience. This feature will reportedly function as a floating action button (FAB) within the Calls tab, enabling users to dial numbers that are not saved on their smartphones.
Moreover, it is speculated that this feature will allow users to save new contacts directly from the dialer to their device or add them to existing contacts. Additionally, it may provide a function to verify if a number is registered on WhatsApp.
