WhatsApp is reportedly developing a fresh interface for its Android application. The modifications, attributed to the Meta-owned messaging platform, focus on the upper app bar and various user interface elements, according to a recent report. The updated design features a white top bar, while other UI components are highlighted in green. This redesign was noted in the beta version 2.23.18.18 of WhatsApp for Android, which can be accessed through the Google Play Beta program. However, not all testers currently have access to the new interface.
A report from WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp features, indicates the ongoing work on the Android app’s new interface. This redesign has been observed in the aforementioned beta version, which remains in development and not yet available to all beta participants.
The report includes a screenshot showcasing the new design, where the app’s top bar is depicted in white, and other elements such as the app name appear in green. Additionally, the navigation bar is positioned at the bottom of the application. This redesign could be an initiative by Meta to synchronize with Google’s recent Material Design 3 standards.
The upgraded user interface for Android is anticipated to be included in a future update and may see further modifications before its official release. Furthermore, WhatsApp is also working on a design overhaul for its iOS app. Changes have reportedly been identified in the latest beta version for iOS 23.17.1.77 within the TestFlight app.
In other developments, WhatsApp has begun implementing the feature to send HD videos through a new toggle in the app, a rollout that started earlier this month. Users can also now send high-resolution images. With the recent update, WhatsApp for Android version 2.23.17.74 allows users to share videos in 720p resolution, upgrading from the previous default of 480p.
