Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced a much-anticipated screen-sharing feature for video calls, enabling users to share their screens in a manner similar to platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom. Recent reports indicate that the Meta-owned messaging service is planning to enhance this functionality by allowing users to share audio from music or videos while sharing their screens during calls. This new feature was observed in the beta version 23.25.10.72 of WhatsApp for iOS, accessible through the TestFlight app.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks WhatsApp features, the application is developing a tool that will permit iPhone users to share audio alongside their screens during video calls. This advancement aims to facilitate simultaneous listening of videos and music for participants during shared calls. The anticipated capability of sharing audio in real-time is expected to enhance user engagement, particularly during presentations and virtual gatherings.
The sharing audio feature was detected in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, specifically 23.25.10.72, which is part of the official TestFlight beta program. However, the feature is still in development, and it has not yet been rolled out to beta users, according to WABetaInfo.
The publication has provided insights into the audio sharing feature, noting that it is drawn from enabling hidden functionalities still under development. Importantly, this feature will not function with WhatsApp voice calls and will also be inaccessible during video calls where the video is turned off.
WhatsApp’s original screen sharing functionality was introduced in August to compete with existing video conferencing platforms. This feature can be activated by tapping on the share icon. Additionally, WhatsApp has made adjustments to support landscape mode during video calls to improve the screen sharing experience.
