WhatsApp is in the process of rolling out two new features aimed at enhancing user experience regarding video sharing and payments. The platform is testing longer video sharing capabilities for status updates and a more efficient method for peer-to-peer (P2P) payments through UPI. These features were identified by the tracking service WABetaInfo in recent beta versions of the app for Android users.
The beta version 2.24.7.6 of WhatsApp for Android has introduced the ability for users to upload videos that are 60 seconds long for their status updates, an increase from the previous 30-second limit. However, it is important to note that viewers will also need to have the latest beta version installed to access these extended video statuses.
In addition to the extended video feature, WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.3 has introduced a more streamlined way to facilitate UPI payments. Users can now access a dedicated QR code scanner shortcut located above the main chat list, eliminating the need to navigate through the three-dot menu to scan payment QR codes. This shortcut is conveniently positioned to the left of the camera and search options at the top right of the app interface.
Recently, the messaging platform implemented a feature to block screenshot capture of users’ profile photos on the latest Android version. While Pixel devices display all-black screenshots, other Android models refuse to take screenshots altogether due to their respective security policies.
A new beta version of WhatsApp has also introduced the functionality to pin multiple chats at the top of the chat list, enabling users to easily access multiple conversations without the need to search for them. It is anticipated that the new QR code scanner, the option for longer status updates, and enhanced chat pinning capabilities will become available to all users in the stable version of the app in the upcoming weeks or months.
