WhatsApp has introduced an update that enhances the functionality of disappearing messages in its messaging app. The new ‘Keep in Chat’ feature allows users to retain certain disappearing messages within their conversations, but sends certain authority to the message sender, who can choose which messages may be saved. This capability enables users to revisit important messages at a later time, while preserving the autonomy of the sender.
In a recent blog post, WhatsApp clarified that messages set to disappear will not be permanently available. However, with the ‘Keep in Chat’ option, users can save valuable messages. The sender will be notified if a message has been retained by someone in the chat, thereby maintaining their control over shared content.
Messages that are saved will be marked with a bookmark icon and stored in a designated ‘Kept Messages’ folder. This feature is now being rolled out to users worldwide, according to the messaging platform owned by Meta.
In addition to this, WhatsApp has launched the iOS 23.7.82 update through the App Store. As per information from WABetaInfo, the update introduces a new sticker maker tool that allows users to create custom stickers within the app without resorting to third-party applications. Users with iOS 16 can extract images and create stickers that can be directly sent in chats.
WABetaInfo reported that the sticker maker tool will only be available for iOS 16, with no current plans to extend this functionality to older versions. Once the stickers are created, they will be added to the user’s collection for ease of access.
