WhatsApp is introducing an enhanced experience for its stickers, featuring more interactive and fluid animations thanks to the integration of the Lottie framework. This development was initially noted in a beta version of the app for Android back in February, but it is now being widely released with the latest updates for both Android and iOS users. The first sticker pack to showcase these dynamic animations is titled “I’m Just a Girl.”

Lottie Framework Support on WhatsApp

As reported by the feature tracker WABetaInfo, the new Lottie framework support is available to users who have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on Android and iOS platforms. Users can confirm if they have access to this feature by checking the WhatsApp sticker store for the availability of the sticker pack, enabling a more dynamic sticker interaction.

Traditionally, WhatsApp sticker packs utilize WebP format, which allows developers to compress images while preserving quality for web use. The Lottie framework, however, enables the creation of more sophisticated and fluid animations, leveraging motion graphic design software like Adobe After Effects for seamless rendering on mobile devices. The Lottie-based stickers are vector-based, meaning developers and users can resize animations to their liking without compromising resolution.

The feature tracker highlighted that the “I’m Just a Girl” sticker pack, crafted by BUCK, is the inaugural sticker pack utilizing this new framework. It stands out with its more fluid animations compared to other sticker offerings in the store, with a compact size of 228KB.

Staff members from Gadgets 360 confirmed that this new sticker pack is accessible on stable versions of WhatsApp for both Android and iOS devices.

In addition to this sticker enhancement, Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp, announced its plans to introduce Meta AI to users in India. Initially unveiled in April, this AI chatbot has now begun its rollout in the country, with users expected to see it in the upcoming days.

The AI chatbot will operate using Meta’s proprietary Llama 3 large language model (LLM) and will be available across several applications, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
