On Monday, Apple unveiled its yearly end-of-year charts showcasing the most downloaded applications and games from the App Store across more than 35 countries, including India. WhatsApp, the widely used messaging service owned by Meta Platforms, topped the list as the most downloaded free iPhone app. The paid app category was led by the Forest: Focus for Productivity app, designed to encourage users to disconnect from their devices and concentrate on more meaningful activities.
Apple App Store 2024 Downloads
Apple’s report highlighted the 2024 year-end rankings, which are accessible on the App Store’s Today tab. Following WhatsApp, the most downloaded free iPhone apps included Instagram, YouTube, and Google Pay.
In the paid apps category, Money Manager secured the second position, with DSLR Camera, Shadowrocket, and iTablaPro rounding out the top five. On the gaming front, Battlegrounds Mobile India, often referred to as BGMI, was the leading free game for iPhone users, while Minecraft led the paid games segment. Ludo King and Subway Surfers maintained their popularity, occupying the second and third spots for the most downloaded free games. Meanwhile, Earn to Die 2 and Hitman Sniper took the second and third positions in the paid games category.
It is noteworthy that Hitman Sniper, which was the most downloaded paid game last year, was surpassed by Minecraft this year.
Additionally, Apple released its rankings for the top games on Apple Arcade, the company’s subscription service offering ad-free gameplay with no in-app purchases. The standout title for 2024 was Getting Over It+, followed closely by NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition, Snake.io+, Asphalt 8: Airborne+, and Angry Birds Reloaded.
