WhatsApp, the widely used instant messaging application managed by Meta, is reportedly in the process of developing a new feature for iOS that will enhance its drawing tool. The feature was recently identified in the latest beta update available through TestFlight for iOS, focusing on a text editor that will introduce new fonts and tools aimed at improving the drawing editor’s usability. This new capability will allow users to easily change text fonts with a simple tap. Additionally, WhatsApp has been observed working on a group expiration feature for its iOS users.
As indicated by a recent report from feature tracker WABetaInfo, the upcoming text editor will provide users with new font options and text formatting features within the drawing tool. Users will find selecting fonts more straightforward, with options accessible directly from the keyboard. Furthermore, the feature will enable adjustments to text alignment, as well as formatting of text integrated within images, videos, and GIFs. Users will also have the ability to modify the text background color.
The fonts scheduled for future updates of WhatsApp for iOS include Calistoga, Courier Prime, Damion, Exo 2, and Morning Breeze. Development for this feature was identified in the WhatsApp beta version 23.5.0.72 via the TestFlight program; however, beta testers will currently not have access to the text tool as it remains under development.
In addition, WhatsApp has been seen working on a feature that allows users to set expiration dates for group chats on iOS. This feature will enable users to select expiration intervals—ranging from one day and one week to a custom date. Once the selected expiration date arrives, users will receive a notification to manage the group. The expiration setting can also be reset or removed as needed.
It is important to note that this feature will only impact other participants in the group chat. This functionality was detected in the WhatsApp Beta version 23.5.0.71. Both of these new features are still in the development phase, and WhatsApp has not provided a timeline for their official release to users.
