WhatsApp, the widely-used instant messaging application owned by Meta, is reportedly developing a new feature for iOS that will streamline the process of sharing WhatsApp statuses directly to Facebook stories. This feature is currently under development and has been observed in the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS 23.7.0.75, accessible through the TestFlight app.
A recent report by WABetaInfo, a site focused on tracking feature updates, indicates that users will soon have the option to share their WhatsApp status updates as Facebook stories without exiting the app. Furthermore, this new functionality will provide users with enhanced control over their privacy settings, allowing them to enable or disable the sharing option in WhatsApp Status settings.
The tracking website also shared a screenshot showing the newly integrated option within the WhatsApp beta. This option resembles existing sharing functionalities seen in platforms like Instagram. Notably, the feature will be turned off by default, requiring users to activate it manually. If users choose not to share their statuses on Facebook stories, they can also disable this option at any time.
Currently, users have to manually share their WhatsApp status to Facebook stories each time they post updates. The expectation is that the forthcoming feature will simplify this process in a future app release.
In addition to the status sharing feature, WhatsApp is also exploring functionality for editing messages. According to reports, any edited message will display an “edited” label visible to all participants in a chat. This feature is being tested in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.6.0.74 and includes a dedicated alert for edited messages.
