WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for its iOS application that aims to facilitate music sharing in status updates. Beta tracking sources indicate that this functionality was identified in the most recent beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, allowing users to seamlessly share music from Spotify directly on their status updates through an integrated feature. This enhancement is expected to streamline the current process by removing the need for forwarding, copying, and pasting links.
Spotify Integration for WhatsApp Status Updates
According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, Meta Platforms is in the process of developing the Spotify integration for WhatsApp status updates, which is set to be included in a future app version. This feature was discovered in WhatsApp Beta for iOS, specifically in app version 25.8.10.72. Screenshots provided by the tracker suggest that music shared via status updates will include a preview generated by WhatsApp, showcasing essential details like the song title, artist name, and album cover.
Additionally, there are expectations for a link that will allow users to directly access the track on Spotify through a Play on Spotify option. Once the feature is launched, users can anticipate a new Status option appearing in the share sheet within Spotify for iOS, aligning the music sharing experience on WhatsApp with that of Instagram, another app under Meta Platforms.
WABetaInfo also reports that this new feature is still in development, and at present, even registered beta testers through Apple’s TestFlight program may not have access to it. It is expected to be made available to additional WhatsApp for iOS beta users in the coming weeks. Importantly, the music shared through status updates will maintain the same end-to-end encryption as regular chats, ensuring that only the intended recipients can view the content.
Interestingly, a comparable feature was noted in development for WhatsApp on Android earlier this month, identified in the WhatsApp beta for Android app version 2.25.8.3, which is accessible through the Google Play Beta Programme.
