WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that would allow users to manage two accounts on a single phone. The application has been seen testing this multi-account capability specifically for Android devices. Historically, the platform tends to launch similar features for iOS in close proximity to their Android releases. Recently, WhatsApp has introduced several enhancements, including the ability to share HD photos and videos. In addition, the app is said to be experimenting with a new interface for Android, featuring a bottom menu bar akin to the one already available on iOS.
A report from WABetaInfo highlights that an increasing number of beta users on Android are receiving access to this multi-account option. It is currently included in the WhatsApp beta version 2.23.18.21 and is being distributed to more users participating in the beta testing phase. This beta release also comes with an updated user interface designed for app settings.
The multi-account feature was first detected in testing phases back in June of this year. This function will enable individuals to operate multiple WhatsApp accounts from the same device. Users will now be able to navigate WhatsApp settings to add a second account seamlessly.
Expected to roll out to stable users in the coming weeks, this feature is particularly advantageous for those who utilize different phone numbers for various countries or for those who maintain separate accounts for work and personal use.
To access the multi-account feature, users must download the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android on a compatible device. They can initiate a new account by selecting the Add Account option available in the settings menu after activating the feature. Subsequently, users can input the phone number for the new account and follow the provided prompts to complete the setup. The newly added account will remain active on the device until the user opts to log out.
Each WhatsApp account will retain its unique settings, chat history, and notifications. Users can switch between different accounts by selecting the account changer feature in the settings menu.
