The Meta-owned messaging platform is now reportedly enhancing this feature, with plans to allow users to share HD images and videos in their status updates. This forthcoming capability has been discovered in the beta version 2.23.26.3 of WhatsApp for Android, accessible through the Google Play Beta program.
A recent report from WABetaInfo, a source for updates on WhatsApp features, indicates that the app will soon permit the upload of high-quality content to user statuses. The update is being incrementally rolled out via the Google Play Beta program in the specified beta version. Currently, users are limited to uploading compressed photos and videos for their status, a limitation that puts WhatsApp at a disadvantage compared to rivals such as iMessage and Telegram.
The report provides a glimpse of the HD status feature through screenshots. The functionality is expected to be available in future beta updates, though it is not yet accessible to testers.
WhatsApp had first enabled high-definition photo and video sharing in August, allowing users to send videos at a resolution of 720p, compared to the previous standard of 480p.
This proposed HD status feature is part of a broader array of updates from WhatsApp. Additionally, the company is reportedly working on a feature that will enable iPhone users to share audio while screen sharing during video calls, allowing participants to enjoy video and music sound simultaneously. Moreover, a new optional feature may permit users to share their WhatsApp statuses directly to Instagram.
