WhatsApp is set to extend its “Call Link” feature to users on Windows. Recently, the app was observed testing this functionality with select beta users included in the latest update for WhatsApp beta for Windows 2.2307.1.0. This feature allows users to generate and send a link for a call, enabling their contacts to easily join a video or audio call. Previously, this feature was introduced for WhatsApp on Android, and it seems to be making its debut in the Windows beta version now.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, which tracks WhatsApp’s beta developments, the Meta-owned messaging platform has begun implementing the ability to create and share a call link for video or audio chats. This functionality is currently accessible to specific beta testers following the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows 2.2307.1.0 update. To use this feature, users must ensure they have the latest version of the beta app downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
The report included a screenshot of the new feature, highlighting an option to “Create a Call” Link in the Calls tab of WhatsApp. By selecting this option, users can choose whether to initiate a video call or a voice call. A unique link will then be generated, which can be shared by copying and pasting it into chats to invite participants to join the call.
Each call link will feature a distinct URL, and only those who have been invited will be able to join, pending the user’s approval. This enhancement simplifies the process of inviting individuals to WhatsApp calls, even for those not saved in the users’ contact lists. Importantly, the call link can also be shared outside the app.
While the Call Link feature is already available for Android users, its rollout for Windows comes after its initial introduction in October 2022. For Android users, the option to create a Call Link can be found at the top of the Calls tab, with each link remaining valid for a duration of up to 90 days.
