WhatsApp is enhancing its Android application by introducing a new feature that enables users to set a default quality for media uploads. This functionality had been in the works for some time and was initially identified by a feature tracker back in March, specifically within WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.5.6. The feature is now making its way to users publicly.
According to early reports from Android Police, the updated WhatsApp for Android now allows users to establish a default media upload quality. This means users can select HD quality as their standard setting, eliminating the need to adjust the quality each time they share an image or video.
The toggle for this new setting can be found under the Storage and Data section within the app’s settings. Staff members from Gadgets 360 have confirmed that this feature is indeed available in the most recent stable version of WhatsApp for Android.
The feature appears as a new option labeled Media Upload Quality, offering two choices:
- Standard quality – Faster uploads with smaller file sizes
- HD quality – Slower uploads, potentially six times the size
WABetaInfo, a feature tracking service, initially indicated in March that WhatsApp was experimenting with this new capability. However, it was not accessible to beta testers at that time.
WhatsApp Channel Analytics
Additionally, WhatsApp for Android is reportedly testing a channel analytics feature. An update in app version 2.24.13.10 revealed that this capability will provide WhatsApp channel owners with analytics, including metrics such as net followers and account reach. This feature aims to deliver insights into audience engagement and the overall performance of WhatsApp channels.
As stated by the feature tracker, this functionality is still under development and has yet to be made available to beta testers.
