The latest update for WhatsApp on iOS introduces a variety of new features aimed at enhancing user experience. Among the most notable additions is the capability to use augmented reality (AR) effects and backgrounds within the app’s camera. Additionally, sharing documents has been streamlined with the introduction of a new document scanning feature, which is now integrated into WhatsApp’s file-sharing functionality. These enhancements were initially noted in beta versions and are now being rolled out to all users.
New Features on WhatsApp for iOS
According to the feature tracker WABetaInfo, the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS (version 24.25.93) includes several exciting features. Users can now easily apply various AR effects while using the camera, with an icon resembling an image wand appearing next to the gallery icon in the camera’s viewfinder. Effects available to users include options such as confetti, star windows, tears, underwater scenes, sparkles, and karaoke.
In addition, WhatsApp offers new backgrounds to help users disguise their surroundings and provides tools to adjust the color tone of their videos.
A significant enhancement to the app is the introduction of a document scanning feature. This option can be found in the document sharing window under the label Scan document. The feature includes various filters like color, grayscale, and black & white. After the document is captured, WhatsApp will automatically crop the image and allows users to resize the borders. Furthermore, there is a toggle for an auto-shutter option, which will automatically capture the document when it is positioned correctly in the camera’s view.
Reports indicate that both of these features are now available in the updated version of WhatsApp for iOS.
