WhatsApp is set to enhance its recently launched instant video messaging feature with a new toggle option for users. This feature, which allows users to record and send live video messages of up to 60 seconds, was introduced last month and is currently enabled by default within the app’s settings. However, the latest beta updates for both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp have included this toggle, providing users with greater control over the feature.

A report from WABetaInfo, a resource dedicated to tracking WhatsApp’s development, indicates that the beta version 23.18.1.70 for iOS and version 2.23.18.21 for Android have included the new toggle for this instant video messaging feature. With this update, users can manually enable or disable the feature through the app’s settings and opt to send voice messages instead. Notably, users can still receive video messages even when the feature is disabled.

The report mentions that many users have already observed the feature being switched off. Therefore, those interested in utilizing instant video messages are advised to check their WhatsApp settings.

To access the latest beta features, users can download WhatsApp for Android from the Google Play Store or WhatsApp for iOS via the TestFlight app. The rollout of this feature to a broader audience is expected in the forthcoming days.

WhatsApp recently introduced the functionality to record and send short video messages. Users will find a video recorder icon situated next to the text box, similar to the voice message feature. By tapping this icon, they can initiate a video recording of up to 60 seconds to be sent as a message. These video messages are encrypted end-to-end for privacy. Upon receipt, videos play without sound until users tap them again to enable audio. In addition to video messages, WhatsApp still allows users to send images or pre-recorded videos as media attachments.
