WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that enables users to pin messages in chats, allowing for easier access to important discussions. This function lets users emphasize a particular message in both individual and group chats and position it at the top of the conversation. Users can keep a pinned message highlighted for a maximum of 30 days, and it supports various types of content, including text, polls, and emojis. However, users are limited to pinning one message at a time.
The Meta-owned messaging platform announced the launch of this Pinned Messages feature via a post on X (previously known as Twitter) on Tuesday, December 13. This tool is designed to showcase essential details, such as addresses, dates, or phone numbers, providing quick access to previous messages in ongoing chats.
To pin a message, users can long-press on a conversation and select Pin from the available options. Messages can be pinned for durations of 24 hours, seven days, or one month, with seven days set as the default time frame. All varieties of content, such as text messages, files, emojis, images, polls, and videos, can be pinned. In group chats, administrators can control which members have the ability to pin messages, granting this power exclusively to admins or allowing all participants to pin.
WhatsApp’s introduction of this feature comes as its rivals, Telegram and iMessage, have already implemented a message pinning option. The update was previously identified on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.23.21.4).
Recently, Meta has been actively enhancing its messaging platform with various features. WhatsApp also recently unveiled the View Once option for voice messages, enabling users to send audio messages that disappear after the recipient listens to them. Furthermore, reports suggest that WhatsApp is working on functionality allowing users to share high-definition images and videos in their status updates. Additionally, there are plans for a feature to enable users to share their WhatsApp statuses directly to Instagram.
