New Reminder Feature Utilizes Internal Algorithm
With the rollout of WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.25.29 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), users can find an updated section under Settings > Notifications > Reminders highlighting that the app will provide occasional reminders for messages along with status updates. However, Gadgets 360 noted that they were unable to access the feature, indicating that it is being gradually rolled out to beta testers.
Once enabled, users can expect to receive notifications for messages that may have gone unnoticed. WhatsApp has not yet disclosed specifics on the functionality of this feature, including whether reminders will be generated for all contacts or solely for a select few.
The feature tracker specifies that the Reminders function will update users about unread messages from prioritized contacts, determined by their interaction levels on the app. The reminders will be generated through an algorithm that functions on the user’s device, meaning a fresh installation of WhatsApp will update the list of recent contacts accordingly.
This feature appears to have been created to help users focus on important conversations, minimizing potential overload from status updates and messages from all contacts. The Reminders feature is expected to reach more beta testers soon and could potentially become available to the entire WhatsApp user base in the future.
