WhatsApp is in the process of enhancing its instant messaging platform by introducing new features and refining existing ones. A recent report indicates that the Meta-owned service is set to launch a dedicated newsletter section. This development has been observed in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, specifically Beta 2.23.5.3. The anticipated newsletter feature is designed to facilitate the broadcasting of information, allowing subscribers to effortlessly receive updates from groups, sports teams, organizations, or business communications.
WABetaInfo has reported that the Beta 2.23.5.3 version of WhatsApp for Android includes this dedicated newsletter section. This feature is believed to be an extension of the Communities functionality, which enables users to connect up to 10 groups. The new newsletter section is expected to function as a separate and optional feature within the app.
The report does not definitively confirm whether ‘Newsletter’ will be the official name of the feature, referring to it instead by its codename in the current beta iteration. It also indicates that since the feature is aimed at reaching a broad audience, it will not provide end-to-end encryption during the beta testing phase.
This upcoming feature will allow users to search for newsletters through handle names within the WhatsApp application. Users will have control over whom they follow, while the identities of those followed, as well as the newsletters themselves, will remain private and hidden from other users. Additionally, to ensure privacy, WhatsApp will obscure the phone numbers of individuals who either create or subscribe to newsletters.
It remains uncertain when this feature will be rolled out to the general WhatsApp user base with an official release.
