The WhatsApp Desktop application for Windows, owned by Meta, has rolled out a significant update aimed at enhancing user experience. The latest version is reported to load more quickly and offers improved features for group audio and video calls. Users can now invite a larger number of participants to group calls.

The updated application features an interface that closely resembles the mobile version. It also introduces new multi-device functionalities, including quicker device linking and improved synchronization across different devices. Recently, the company was observed testing a function that allows users to search for common groups related to their contacts in the latest beta version of the app for Android.

As outlined in a blog post from Meta, the new WhatsApp Desktop app now supports group video calls with up to eight participants and audio calls with as many as 32. The company has indicated plans to expand these limits in the future, enabling greater connectivity among friends, family, and colleagues.

WhatsApp maintains its commitment to end-to-end encryption for messaging, media, and calls across multiple devices, including smartphones, computers, and tablets. This ensures that all content, such as messages, photos, and calls, remains inaccessible to unauthorized third parties, including the application itself.

Additionally, Meta has shared its intentions to improve device linking speed and synchronization, along with the introduction of link previews and the ability to send stickers. The company is also in the early stages of beta testing for new versions of WhatsApp optimized for Android tablets and Mac desktops.

Furthermore, the new beta version for Android has been found to include a feature that helps users search for common groups associated with specific contacts. This will facilitate quick access to relevant group chats, identifiable through a “Groups in common” section in the search bar.
