WhatsApp has begun introducing an update for iOS users, enhancing the group calling functionality on the widely used messaging application. Previously, the platform allowed group calls with up to 32 participants, markedly increasing the previous limit of inviting 15 members. Following the recent update, users can now invite as many as 31 participants to a group call, as reported by various feature trackers.
The latest stable release, WhatsApp for iOS 23.22.72, facilitates the initiation of group calls with this expanded limit, according to WABetaInfo. While the app’s changelog does not explicitly state the new group call limit, it highlights other improvements and new features added to the platform.
This update simplifies the process of starting a group call, allowing users to include up to 31 participants directly, a significant enhancement from the previous cap of 15 participants, where additional members had to join manually.
However, the rollout of this feature remains partially unverified, as Gadgets 360 found that the most recent version available in India was 23.21.79, released the prior week. Users may not see the new calling feature immediately post-update, as it may take a few days or weeks for the functionality to reach all accounts.
In addition to this update, WhatsApp has been introducing several features over recent weeks. Notable among them is the ability for users to log in with multiple accounts on the same device and the addition of support for passkeys on Android. This will allow users with two phone numbers to register their second number in the same app.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is also enhancing the login experience for Android users by integrating support for passkeys and biometric authentication, such as fingerprints. This advanced method of authentication aims to provide a secure alternative to passwords and utilizes public key cryptography to protect user data. While the roll-out for passkey support has commenced on Android, there is currently no information regarding its availability on iOS in future updates.
