Visual Supply Company, commonly known as VSCO, is preparing to unveil a new dedicated camera application for the iPhone called Capture. According to reports, this new app will be available exclusively on iOS and will serve as a third-party alternative to the built-in Camera app. Users will reportedly be able to select from a variety of film-style presets prior to taking photographs. The launch is expected to occur soon in selected markets, including Australia and New Zealand.
Features of the VSCO Capture App
As reported by Bloomberg’s Chris Welch, Capture will be a free application, although users will need to sign in with a VSCO account. This marks the company’s first standalone release in over ten years. The app is expected to feature two modes: automatic and manual.
The automatic mode is tailored for those without extensive photography skills, aiming to help users easily capture high-quality images. In contrast, the manual mode will cater to more experienced photographers, providing the flexibility to adjust various settings such as exposure compensation and shutter speed. Users will also be able to customize visual effects, including bloom and halation.
According to the report, Capture will include 50 VSCO presets, featuring film-style filters that can be applied before taking a photo. This functionality is intended to streamline the sharing process on platforms like Instagram and VSCO’s own social media, reducing the need for post-capture editing. Additionally, the app is said to integrate seamlessly with the main VSCO app, facilitating the transfer of images captured in Capture.
At launch, the Capture app will reportedly not incorporate any artificial intelligence features, unlike the main VSCO application, which provides premium offerings like Canvas linked to a subscription plan.
The Capture app is slated for release next week in selected test markets, including Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, through the App Store. A launch in the United States is also in the works, anticipated to occur later this summer.
