Vodafone Idea has unveiled Cloud Play, a new cloud gaming service designed for mobile users, featuring popular titles such as Asphalt 9, Modern Combat 5, and Shadow Fight. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Paris-based cloud gaming company CareGame, will operate on a subscription model beginning at Rs. 100 per month. Users can enjoy Cloud Play on both iOS and Android devices through the Vi app or the company’s website.

The Cloud Play platform aims to provide a diverse library of premium mobile games spanning genres including action, adventure, arcade, racing, sports, and strategy, according to a press release from Vi. Initial offerings will include notable games such as Asphalt 9, Modern Combat 5, and Shadow Fight along with classic titles like Cut the Rope, Subway Surfers, and Jetpack Joyride.

Vi has announced that it plans to expand the game catalog over the coming weeks. As part of its promotional strategy, Cloud Play will feature a free trial period under a “Try n Buy” model, allowing users to experience the service without charge. While the exact duration of the trial period has not been disclosed, users will need to subscribe following the trial to continue accessing the games.

Functioning similarly to other cloud gaming platforms like Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia’s GeForce Now, and JioGamesCloud, Cloud Play allows users to stream games directly without requiring downloads. However, it does necessitate a fast and stable internet connection. This service enables gamers to enjoy graphically demanding titles without the need for high-end devices.

Philippe Wang, Co-founder and CEO of CareGame, stated at the launch, “Cloud Play will enable all gamers in India to enjoy true AAA mobile gaming without having to invest in a new mobile phone or a gamepad, thanks to the combination of CareGame technology, iconic mobile titles from our publishing partners, and Vi networks.”

Access to Cloud Play is available on both the Vi Web and app platforms.

In the competitive landscape of cloud gaming in India, Reliance Jio has also introduced its own service, JioGamesCloud. While Vi’s offering is focused on mobile gaming, JioGamesCloud provides access to PC games as well. Currently available in beta, JioGamesCloud includes titles such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Lords of the Fallen.
