The Vivo X Fold 5 is generating excitement as it is expected to have a lighter build compared to its predecessor. A recent teaser has revealed that the forthcoming book-style foldable smartphone will also be noticeably slimmer than the X Fold 3. The latest promotional material compares the device’s thickness to that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and initial impressions suggest that the Vivo model is just marginally thicker than Apple’s flagship.

Han Boxiao, a product manager at Vivo, posted an image on Weibo illustrating the thickness of the upcoming X Fold 5 alongside the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The image shows the foldable smartphone slightly exceeding the thickness of the iPhone in question.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max measures 8.25mm in thickness, while the Vivo X Fold 5 is reportedly around 8.7mm when folded, according to information from tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd). This would represent a marked improvement over the X Fold 3’s thickness of 10.2mm. Furthermore, when unfolded, the X Fold 5 is anticipated to measure only 4.3mm, slimmer than the 4.65mm profile of its predecessor.
In addition to its thickness, Boxiao’s recent teaser indicated that the Vivo X Fold 5 will be lighter than the standard Vivo X Fold 3, which weighs 219 grams. Speculations suggest that the upcoming model could decrease to approximately 209 grams.
Previously, a tipster had mentioned that the Vivo X Fold 5 might be priced lower than the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, which is listed at CNY 9,999 (around Rs. 1,16,000) for the base variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It was also hinted that the new foldable would come equipped with a 6,000mAh battery along with support for 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.
The Vivo X Fold 5 is set to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, along with options for 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Its design is expected to boast an 8.03-inch inner foldable 2K+ AMOLED display and a 6.53-inch LTPO OLED outer screen. Additionally, the smartphone may include three 50-megapixel rear cameras, incorporating a periscope telephoto lens, and dual 32-megapixel front-facing cameras located on both the main and cover displays. It is likely to feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a three-stage Alert Slider as well.
