Vercel, the pioneering company behind the vibe coding platform known as v0, has officially unveiled its own artificial intelligence (AI) model. Announced on Thursday, the v0 AI model is now accessible through an application programming interface (API) and other formats. This marks the company’s first venture into developing an AI model tailored specifically for web application development tasks, covering both front-end and back-end needs, while being compatible with the OpenAI API.
Vercel’s v0 AI Model Can Develop Websites and Web Apps
The release was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where v0’s official account detailed the new AI model. This model underpins the vibe coding platform v0 and is equipped with extensive knowledge in website development. Currently, it is being offered in beta through the company’s API, an AI software development kit (SDK), and the AI Playground.
According to Vercel, the AI model, designated as v0-1.0-md, is capable of processing both text and image inputs and is optimized for swift response times. Furthermore, it supports the OpenAI Chat Completions API format. The model boasts a context window of up to 128,000 tokens, with a maximum output context size of 32,000 tokens. Users are limited to a maximum of 200 messages each day.
The v0 AI model provides framework-aware completions and has been validated on Next.js as well as Vercel’s technology stack. It can effectively identify and rectify bugs, glitches, and other coding errors during generation, along with making inline edits when necessary.
Importantly, access to the v0 API is currently in beta for developers holding an active Premium or Team subscription with usage-based billing. The pricing model is set at $3 (approximately Rs. 260) per million input tokens and $15 (approximately Rs. 1,290) per million output tokens.
Vibe coding is emerging as a favored approach among developers, characterized by the ability to articulate coding tasks in natural language for AI models, which then generate the necessary code. This method enables human operators to assume a strategic role, directing the project, verifying errors, and ensuring alignment with the envisioned outcome.
