Reports indicate that Valve is developing a new game that is not the long-anticipated Half-Life 3. According to leaked information, the upcoming title is called Deadlock, which is expected to be a hero shooter comparable to Overwatch. Early details suggest that the game will offer competitive third-person gameplay in a 6v6 format and is currently in the playtesting phase. Previously referred to as Neon Prime, development on Deadlock reportedly began in 2018.
The insights into Deadlock come from notable sources, including leaker Gabe Follower and gaming journalist Tyler McVicker. In a recent post on X, Follower (@gabefollower) stated that two teams of six players will compete on expansive maps designed with four lanes. Similar to Blizzard’s Overwatch and Valve’s own Team Fortress 2, characters within the game will reportedly possess unique abilities and equipment.
According to the leaks, the aesthetic of Deadlock will combine elements of fantasy with steampunk. It is also expected to incorporate tower defense mechanics, allowing players to traverse the environment using floating rails reminiscent of those featured in Bioshock Infinite.

Follower describes the gameplay of Deadlock as fast-paced and dynamic, likening it to a blend of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, and Orcs Must Die. He also suggested that hero designs may draw inspiration from the Dota universe.
The X user has also shared screenshots purportedly from Deadlock, featuring one of the game’s characters, Grey Talon, who appears to be skilled in archery.
As of now, Valve has not confirmed any specifics regarding Deadlock, nor has it provided a timeline for the game’s release. However, playtesting is reportedly taking place, with access granted to various content creators in the gaming community.
Valve’s latest release was Counter-Strike 2 in September 2023, which succeeded Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. CS2 introduced enhanced graphics, redesigned maps, and significant gameplay improvements.
