The government of Uttarakhand is taking significant measures to combat fraudulent websites linked to helicopter ticket bookings, particularly during the Kedarnath Yatra. This pilgrimage to the revered Kedarnath Temple is part of the larger Chota Char Dham Yatra, drawing many devotees. Reports indicate that cybercriminals have established fake ticket booking sites, promoting them through various social media channels. In response, the Uttarakhand police have urged the public to stay vigilant, and have successfully blocked numerous social media accounts connected to this scam.
Increase in Helicopter Ticket Booking Scams for Kedarnath Yatra
A recent report reveals that the special task force (STF) of the Uttarakhand Police has dismantled 51 fraudulent websites, along with 56 bank accounts and 30 WhatsApp numbers associated with these helicopter booking scams. The police have also blocked 111 phone numbers identified as linked to cyber fraud.
Scammers are enticing pilgrims with the promise of fake helicopter service tickets, touting rides from locations that are currently unavailable. These pseudo-tickets are often offered at lower prices, preying on the eagerness of individuals to secure their transportation. Scammers frequently utilize social media accounts and questionable websites for their deceptive activities.
In light of these developments, pilgrims are advised to disregard anyone claiming to be an agent for helicopter services. Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious websites or social media accounts to the Uttarakhand STF by calling 1930 or emailing ccps.deh@uttarakhandpolice.uk.gov.in.
Furthermore, the government recommends that when booking helicopter tickets online, devotees should first verify the authenticity of the websites. It is important to note that the official portal for helicopter bookings to Kedarnath is managed by the IRCTC.
