The Uncharted franchise, recognized as a major force in the gaming industry, is on the brink of a cinematic adaptation, marking a significant development in its journey to the big screen.
Joe Carnahan, the screenwriter behind the forthcoming Uncharted movie and also set to direct Bad Boys 3, announced via Instagram that he has completed the script for Nathan Drake’s cinematic debut.
In his post, he expressed enthusiasm for the script, stating, “Done and Dusted. Now the REAL work begins. If there’s a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood right now, I wanna read it, ‘cuz this thing is a BEAST.”
Originally, Sony had removed Uncharted from its film release schedule in September 2016, yet the studio remained committed to bringing the project to fruition. In October of the same year, Shawn Levy, known for his work on Real Steel, was appointed to direct the film, with plans for production to commence in early 2017.
With Carnahan’s script now finalized, it is likely that Sony will adhere to its intended timeline for filming.
At the CES 2017 conference, Sony announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End had achieved significant commercial success, selling 8.7 million copies worldwide across both digital and physical platforms by December 21, 2016, a figure that may have grown in the interim.
Additionally, during the PlayStation Experience 2016, Sony unveiled Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a new installment developed by the beloved studio Naughty Dog. This game follows the characters Chloe Frazer from Uncharted 2 and Nadine Ross from Uncharted 4, presenting itself as the first single-player standalone chapter within the Uncharted series. Players will not need to own Uncharted 4 to enjoy this new addition.
