Twitter has initiated the rollout of a new Bookmark count feature, which will accompany the existing metrics for Retweets, Quotes, and Likes on each tweet. This count will indicate how many users have chosen to bookmark a tweet. Currently, the feature is only accessible for users on iOS devices. Importantly, unlike the interactive displays for Retweets, Quotes, and Likes, clicking on the Bookmark count will not disclose the identities of the users who bookmarked the tweet.
The social media giant, owned by Elon Musk, announced this latest addition through a tweet from its official Twitter Support account. In a subsequent tweet, Twitter clarified that the Bookmark count feature will remain a private matter, only showing the number of bookmarks a tweet has received without revealing usernames.
On a related support page, Twitter noted that while the feature is currently limited to iOS, plans are in place to expand it to additional platforms in the future.
All users accessing a tweet on an iOS device will be able to view the Bookmark counts, regardless of whether they authored the tweet or are simply reading it.
Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the platform has been frequently testing and implementing various features. The Bookmark feature itself was originally introduced in January 2023. Musk previously referred to the Bookmark button as a ‘de facto silent like’, emphasizing its privacy, which ensures that a user’s saved tweets remain hidden from others.
In addition to the Bookmark feature, Twitter has recently adjusted its feed algorithm for both iOS and Android, allowing the app to remember the last used tab when reopened. The home page is divided into two sections: For You, which presents algorithm-recommended tweets, and Following, which shows tweets from accounts the user follows in chronological order. However, this feature has been withdrawn from Twitter’s web interface.
