Twitter, under the ownership of Elon Musk, is taking steps to enhance its competitive edge against major social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Effective June 7, Twitter Blue subscribers will now have one hour to edit tweets after posting, an extension from the previous 30-minute limit that had been in place since the feature was introduced in October 2022. Musk, who is both the owner and chief technology officer of the platform, aims to attract more investment by rolling out features that users have long requested as part of the Twitter Blue subscription service.

Wednesday’s announcement was made via Twitter Blue’s official account, which has over 571,000 followers, confirming that users who pay for the service will benefit from the new one-hour editing window for tweets.

The ability to edit tweets has been one of the most sought-after features among Twitter users since the days of former CEO Jack Dorsey, who co-founded the platform in 2006.

Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion (approximately Rs. 3,63,110 crore) allowed him to enhance the Twitter Blue subscription with attractive features, pricing it at $8 (around Rs. 900) per month. His intentions were clear: to increase revenue for Twitter, which had been experiencing financial challenges. This included significant layoffs aimed at restructuring the company and reducing costs.

The launch of the edited tweets feature was one of the first moves in Musk’s plan to bolster the Twitter Blue offering. However, the response from subscribers has not been entirely positive.

According to a report from Technology News, citing its editor Alex Heath, many Twitter Blue subscribers have raised concerns about the functionality of certain features included in the subscription package. Additionally, the much-touted reduced ads feature, promoted since February, has yet to be implemented.

Despite these setbacks, Twitter has introduced other modifications to enhance user experience. Notably, in May, the platform announced the introduction of picture-in-picture mode for videos, allowing users to scroll through their timelines without interrupting video playback.

Additionally, Twitter had earlier rolled out an encrypted direct messages (DM) feature aimed at providing better security for private conversations on the platform.
