Pika Labs, based in Palo Alto, California, announced the launch of its innovative artificial intelligence (AI) social application, named Pika Social AI Video, on Monday. This iOS app allows users to transform their selfies into AI-generated short videos using integrated models available on the platform. After the video creation, users have the option to share their creations through a social feed.

The announcement was made in a blog post from the startup. Currently, the app is exclusive to iOS users, who will need an invite code to access the platform. Last month, Pika Labs onboarded a limited number of users while also opening a waitlist for those interested in joining. The company has indicated that an Android version of the app will be available soon.
Pika Social AI Video enables users to create short, AI-generated videos from their selfies. The app includes various customization tools, allowing users to modify elements in their selfies before generating videos.
Users can also utilize text prompts to instruct the video model to produce a specific result. After videos are created, they can be shared on the social feed. In addition to generating videos from scratch, the platform allows users to choose settings from previously shared videos and use them as a basis for new creations.

The Pika Labs official account on X (formerly Twitter) shared news of a new feature for the platform. This feature involves a video generation model capable of natively generating audio and creating “hyper-real expressions” almost instantaneously. The startup claims that users can generate HD videos of any style and length in six seconds or less.
Details regarding whether this feature will be available for free or require a subscription have not yet been clarified by Pika Labs, nor has the company provided a timeline for when this feature will be implemented in the app.
