TikTok is introducing new advertising features powered by artificial intelligence, enabling marketers to transform text or still images into AI-generated video content tailored for the platform.
On Monday, the company announced that marketers can either upload an image of a product they wish to highlight, or provide a brief text prompt outlining their desired video advertisement. TikTok’s AI technology will then generate several five-second clips suitable for use in advertising campaigns.
These text- and image-to-video capabilities are part of TikTok’s Symphony product, launched in 2024 to assist brands in creating ads using generative AI. The platform, which is operated by the Chinese company ByteDance, has also enabled advertisers to utilize AI-driven spokespeople, known as avatars, to promote their products within the app.
The rising popularity of AI-generated advertisements reflects a broader trend among major platforms like TikTok and Meta Platforms Inc., which are exploring means to reduce production costs. This shift may allow small businesses to allocate more resources towards advertising efforts. TikTok unveiled its new tools during the Cannes Lions advertising festival, occurring this week in southern France, where AI-generated advertisements are anticipated to take center stage.
