Threads, Instagram’s microblogging service aimed at competing with X (formerly Twitter), has introduced a new desktop feature reminiscent of the TweetDeck layout on May 30. This update, which allows users to pin various content columns to their home screens, was initially hinted at on May 16 when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature was in testing. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, confirmed that the feature is now available to users worldwide.
Threads Enhanced with Multi-Column Layout
In a post on Threads, Mosseri shared that the updated interface has begun rolling out, emphasizing the ability for users to “customize and personalize” their viewing experience. “We have a lot of great ideas to enhance this as the premier website for sharing ideas. Stay tuned for more updates and feel free to share your suggestions,” Mosseri noted.
This new layout allows users to pin feeds directly to their home screen, creating a customizable multi-column desktop layout similar to TweetDeck, which is now rebranded as X Pro. Users can arrange columns such as the Following feed, For You feed, recent notifications, and saved posts side-by-side for easier access.
Users can utilize a pin icon located at the bottom of the left-side panel, just above the More section, to customize their views. Those who prefer simpler navigation still have the option to view a single feed. Gadgets 360 confirmed that this newly introduced multi-column layout successfully replaces the previous single-feed view.
Additionally, Threads is implementing real-time updates for users’ feeds, eliminating the need to manually refresh to view the latest content. Users can toggle the auto-update feature from the top-right corner of their feeds, accessible through a three-dot option.
Cross-Posting Feature Under Testing
Reports also indicate that Threads is experimenting with a cross-posting function that would allow users to share images directly from Instagram. This feature is expected to be opt-in, rather than enabled by default.
It is indicated that when an image is cross-posted from Instagram, the original caption may automatically populate as the text for the Threads entry. However, this feature has not yet been activated for Gadgets 360 team members.
