Meta Platforms is enhancing its microblogging app, Threads, by introducing a new feature that allows users to share photos and videos from other posts without needing to quote the original content. This announcement was made by the platform’s head on Wednesday, highlighting the feature’s aim to foster creative expression alongside shared media while still crediting the original creators.
Insights into the New Feature
In a post on Threads, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, outlined the details of this upcoming functionality. Users will now have the ability to reshare photos and videos without quoting the original post, allowing them to add their own commentary and creative context. Mosseri described it as “an easy way to add your creative takes to trending images and clips.”
This feature is designated as Use media and will be accessible alongside the existing Repost and Quote options through a long-press on the Repost user interface (UI). According to reports from Technology News, users will receive notifications when their content is reshared, and creators have the option to disable this sharing feature through their account settings. Feedback mechanisms will also be available for users to help refine this tool.
Reports from Gadgets 360 indicate that the feature is currently functional on Threads for iOS, although it has not yet been spotted on the Android version of the app.
Additional Features Introduced
Threads has recently rolled out several enhancements aimed at improving user interaction. These updates include new filters for refining search results by date and user profiles, designed to assist users in locating specific posts more efficiently.
Moreover, an activity status indicator has been added, resembling a similar feature on Instagram. When activated, a green dot next to a user’s profile picture indicates their online status, potentially facilitating more dynamic interactions by signaling when users are available for conversation.
