Threads, the microblogging platform owned by Meta, has introduced a significant update for its iPhone and Android applications by adding a dedicated media tab. This new feature allows users to easily view all photos and videos uploaded to their profiles in one convenient location. Additionally, the platform has unveiled a new markup feature enabling users to highlight specific sections of another user’s post when sharing it with their followers. Furthermore, similar to Instagram, Threads now permits users to tag others when sharing photos.
Widespread Rollout of Threads Markup Feature
Previously, Threads users had to navigate through an individual’s timeline to find all media content, as posts containing images and videos were mixed with text-only updates. The updated platform will now display a user’s media posts in reverse chronological order, making it easier to locate specific content.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced the arrival of the media tab, referring to it as a “long overdue request from the community.” He also mentioned the new tagging feature for images, which mirrors the tagging capabilities available on Instagram.
In addition to the media tab, Threads is rolling out a markup tool that allows users to emphasize certain parts of another user’s post while resharing. This feature, which lets users apply a virtual highlighter to sections of the original post, was first introduced earlier this month and is now becoming widely available.
Staff from Gadgets 360 confirmed the visibility of the new media tab in the latest Threads versions for both iOS and Android. The markup tool is functional, enabling users to draw with a pencil, highlight text, and use an ‘arrow’ tool. Conversely, the photo tagging feature is still in the process of being rolled out, potentially occurring in phases.
