Threads is currently testing a new functionality that would enable users to automatically archive their posts after a specified period. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram and the platform formerly known as Twitter, has confirmed the feature’s development. Users will have the flexibility to automatically archive their posts or manually hide them from their public profile. Additionally, the platform is planning to introduce an option for users to restore archived posts back to their timelines.

In a recent post on Threads, Mosseri noted that the feature is currently being tested among a limited number of users, indicating that it remains in the developmental phase. Although he did not provide a specific timeline for when the feature will be publicly available, it could potentially launch within the next two weeks, which aligns with typical post-announcement rollout schedules.

Mosseri shared several screenshots illustrating the new functionality. Users will be able to access the option by clicking on the three dots next to their posts. This will reveal an Archive now option. There will also be a setting to enable automatic archiving of posts after a designated time interval; however, this feature must be activated by the user. It remains uncertain whether users will have the ability to choose their own archiving duration or will instead select from predefined options set by Threads.

If a user wishes to restore an archived post, they will have the ability to unarchive it, making it public once again. Mosseri indicated that feedback from a previous poll he conducted influenced the decision to ensure that the feature will not be enabled by default, requiring users to opt in themselves. This new functionality bears similarities to Instagram’s existing archiving capability.

Meanwhile, Threads developers are actively exploring and implementing new features. Recent reports suggest that another testing phase is underway for a feature that displays real-time search results. Some users have reported seeing two options—Top and Recent—while conducting searches on specific topics.
