Threads, the microblogging platform developed by Meta and a rival to X (previously known as Twitter), is currently piloting a feature that will allow users to designate their preferred default feed. The announcement came from Meta’s CEO on social media this Monday. Once implemented, this new option will let users set a custom feed as their default, in addition to the existing selections available on the platform. This move follows recent changes to the algorithm, aimed at increasing user engagement by showcasing more posts from accounts they actively follow.

Default Feed on Threads

In a post shared on Threads, Mark Zuckerberg provided insights into the feature currently in testing. According to Zuckerberg, users will soon have the ability to choose from the For you, Following, and a custom feed, the latter of which will be tailored according to specified preferences or filters. Moreover, the visibility of the default feed option within the app’s interface will be enhanced, making it easier for users to navigate.

This new feature is part of a broader effort to enrich the user experience on Threads, following the global rollout of custom feeds. The platform allows users to create personalized feeds by searching for specific topics and selecting the Create new feed option. They can further refine their feeds by adding topics or profiles of interest from the relevant pages using the Add to feed feature accessible via a three-dot menu.

Currently, users can switch between the For you, Following, and custom feeds by pulling down on the home screen. However, the new testing feature may soon enable them to set a specific feed as their default.

Although the testing of the default feed picker has started, the comment section beneath Zuckerberg’s announcement saw a flurry of requests for additional features. Among the most sought-after enhancements were the introduction of a chronological feed, seamless viewing of comments, and an option to view more frequent content from accounts users follow.
