Telegram is preparing to launch a visionOS app that will enable users to utilize the messaging platform on the upcoming Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset, which is set to be released next year. The app’s creator, Pavel Durov, has unveiled how the application will function on Apple’s innovative spatial computing device. Users will have the option to access chats through a translucent interface and can dictate or type messages using a virtual keyboard. Additionally, the app will exhibit media, such as videos, in an immersive format.
In a video shared on his channel this Tuesday, Durov presented the preliminary concept of the app designed for visionOS. While Apple showcased several applications during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2023), this marks one of the first in-depth examples of an app tailored for the forthcoming operating system associated with the Vision Pro headset.
The demonstration video commences with a visionOS app list, highlighting the Telegram icon with an animation upon selection. This behavior is anticipated to be a standard feature for applications on visionOS when it becomes available to users in the coming year.
The showcased Telegram app for visionOS features a left-aligned list of chats, with selected windows displayed on the right. Users can send messages either through Siri or by using the standard virtual keyboard offered in visionOS. The demo includes three-dimensional animated stickers and emoji reactions; however, it remains uncertain if these animations will be part of the final product, given that they occupy a significant portion of the display.
Furthermore, Telegram for visionOS will accommodate various media types, allowing users to tap on a video to enter an immersive view that dims the rest of the interface during playback. The app will also provide access to stories, located in the top left corner of the screen. The demo incorporates small icons for profile and calls sections, although these features are not detailed in the video. More information regarding Telegram for visionOS is expected to emerge as the app’s release approaches, with Apple’s mixed reality headset anticipated to hit the market in the United States in early 2024.
