Telegram has announced the introduction of various new features in its first update of 2025, which was revealed on Wednesday. This update enables users to transform received gifts into collectibles that come with unique attributes and can be shared with others. Furthermore, enhancements include an in-app QR code scanner, emoji reactions for service messages, incorporation of emojis in folder names, additional search filters for messages, among other improvements.
Originally intended to be the 17th major update of 2024, the rollout faced delays attributed to “insufficient attention from Apple’s review team,” according to the company.
New Features on Telegram
In a detailed blog post, Telegram explained that gifts received through the platform can now be converted into collectibles. These collectibles can be transferred to different users or auctioned on NFT marketplaces. When a gift is upgraded to a collectible, it receives a distinctive appearance with custom variations created by Telegram artists. Collectibles also feature secondary traits, such as background color, icon, and number, ensuring that each piece is unique, with some being rarer than others.
With this update, Telegram introduces emoji reactions for service messages, such as notifications about new group members or gift sending. Additionally, users can now refine their message searches in private and group chats, as well as channels, thanks to new extra filters.
In an effort to enhance transparency, official third-party services can now assign extra verification icons to user accounts and chats. When a user receives third-party verification, a small logo appears next to their name. However, Telegram underscores that these third-party verification marks are distinct from the verified checkmarks provided for public figures and organizations.
Moreover, the in-app camera on both Android and iOS now includes built-in support for QR code scanning. This feature allows users to open links directly in their preferred browser without the need to switch between applications. Additionally, Premium users will now have the ability to use custom emojis for their folders, adding a more personalized touch.
