DFC Intelligence has revised its global sales forecast for Nintendo’s anticipated Switch 2 video-game console for the year 2025, citing concerns related to tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The research firm now estimates that 15 million units of the Switch 2 will be sold this year, a decrease from its prior prediction of 17 million.

Despite the downward adjustment, these figures would still position the Switch 2 to become the fastest-selling game console ever. However, they reflect the broader uncertainties impacting various sectors due to the new tariff measures.

Nintendo’s shares experienced a decline of 4.3 percent on Wednesday in Tokyo, coinciding with a four percent drop in the benchmark Nikkei 225 Index.

In a related development last week, Nintendo announced a permanent delay in pre-orders in the United States following the announcement of the tariffs, which include a substantial 46 percent levy on goods imported from Vietnam—a primary production location for many Switch consoles.

The report from DFC Intelligence indicated that if prices rise significantly due to the tariffs, a large number of potential customers might postpone their purchases until prices stabilize.

Over the weekend, Vietnam expressed a willingness to eliminate all tariffs imposed on the United States. Nintendo had already shifted its production to Vietnam from China as a strategic move in response to Trump’s trade policies during his first term.

Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 last week, announcing that it would be available for purchase starting June 5 at a price point of $450 (approximately Rs. 38,980). The new model boasts enhanced features and a more robust performance compared to the original Switch, along with a launch lineup that includes new titles like Mario Kart and Metroid.
