David Corenswet takes on the role of Clark Kent in the upcoming film directed by James Gunn.
The dynamic world of DC Studios is set to transition into a new chapter with the anticipated release of Superman on July 11, 2025. This film, helmed by writer and director James Gunn, brings a fresh perspective to the legendary superhero. Following considerable public interest, the first official trailer has been unveiled, showcasing an engaging interplay between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, coupled with an abundance of action, villainous antics, colossal beasts, and the beloved canine companion, Krypto.
James Gunn has characterized his interpretation of Superman as a journey rather than a straightforward origin story. The narrative delves into Superman’s internal conflict as he seeks to balance his Kryptonian lineage and noble roots against his upbringing in a small-town human family. David Corenswet has been cast as the protagonist Clark Kent/Superman, offering a more seasoned portrayal at the age of 25 compared to other adaptations. The role of Lois Lane is filled by Rachel Brosnahan, while Skyler Gisondo portrays Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Holt takes on the iconic role of Lex Luthor, supported by Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher and Terence Rosemore as Otis, Luthor’s loyal accomplices.
The ensemble cast also includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, sporting a notably quirky haircut; Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, whose ability to manipulate elements allows him to change forms; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, a tech genius turned hero; and Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica/The Engineer, equipped with powers stemming from advanced nanotechnology. Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will portray Jonathan and Martha Kent, Superman’s adoptive parents, respectively. The film will see Frank Grillo reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr. from the animated series Creature Commandos, alongside Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord and Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.

The initial teaser released last December provided viewers with a sneak peek at the cast in action, but it was Krypto, Superman’s endearing canine companion, who truly captured the audience’s admiration. A notable scene showed Krypto heroically dragging the injured superhero to safety in the Fortress of Solitude. The full trailer continues to showcase Krypto’s charm as he confronts Lex Luthor and Angela Spica—the Engineer—who infiltrate the iconic stronghold.
However, the core of the narrative centers around the evolving relationship between Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane. The trailer kicks off with Lois conducting a mock interview, where Clark assumes the role of “Superman,” unbeknownst to her of their true identities. During the session, Lois presses Clark with probing questions regarding external perceptions of Superman’s actions, including criticism from the U.S. Secretary of Defense. Clark stands firm in his defense, insisting that his actions prevented fatalities, adding depth to a film rich with action, humor, and emotional resonance, culminating in a heartwarming scene of Superman relaxing with Krypto.
Superman is set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025.
