Shift Up, the newly established studio behind the action-adventure game Stellar Blade, has announced impressive sales figures, indicating that the title has surpassed one million units sold since its launch in April. The announcement was made during the studio’s press conference for its initial public offering (IPO) on Tuesday. Alongside the sales news, Shift Up disclosed that it is currently assessing the feasibility of creating a PC port for Stellar Blade, which debuted as a PS5 exclusive.
Stellar Blade PS5 Sales
According to a report from the Korean publication GameMeca (as reported by VGC), Stellar Blade’s sales figures have exceeded one million copies since its release on April 26. Shift Up’s CFO, Ahn Jae-woo, stated, “Since its release, it has ranked No. 1 in sales in key console markets, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, with cumulative sales estimated to have surpassed one million copies.”
Financial documents from Shift Up reportedly indicate that the revenue from Stellar Blade reached KRW 15.7 billion (approximately Rs. 94.3 crore) in May. This figure, however, only reflects the earnings the studio received from publisher Sony.
Stellar Blade PC Version
During the same press conference, the developer addressed the possibility of a PC version for Stellar Blade. The game, which was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, was launched exclusively on the PS5. CFO Ahn noted, “It was released as a PS5 exclusive, but the distribution and activation levels of the PS5 were not as high as those of the PS4. Moreover, the primary audience for AAA games is increasingly shifting to PCs. We are currently reviewing the PC version of Stellar Blade, and should we proceed with its release, we anticipate a significant enhancement in the value of the IP.”
Sony has maintained a trend of delaying its exclusive titles by two years before they are released on PC. Notable first-party franchises such as God of War and Spider-Man have transitioned to PC following their console exclusivity. The open-world action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, another PlayStation exclusive, was recently launched on PC and became the biggest single-player launch for PlayStation on Steam.
Given this pattern, it is likely that Stellar Blade will eventually be available on PC following its period of exclusivity on PS5. However, Shift Up has refrained from providing a timeline for the potential PC release. “We are reviewing the PC version of Stellar Blade, and we ask for your understanding that we cannot disclose the exact timing or whether it will happen due to our contractual obligations,” the CFO commented in the report.
