Starlink is preparing to expand its services into India after obtaining the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Recent reports have indicated the anticipated pricing for the service. The setup kit, essential for connecting to the satellite communications network, is expected to be priced at INR 33,000. Additionally, monthly subscription fees for unlimited data plans are projected to range from INR 3,000 to INR 4,000.
Starlink India Launch Price
According to Business Standard, Starlink’s pricing approach in India will focus less on the country’s sizable market and more on capacity limitations and international costs. It is anticipated that pricing will align closely with that in other South Asian nations, including Bangladesh and Bhutan, where satellite communication services are already available.
The report indicates that the Standard kit offered by the SpaceX-owned company will be priced around INR 33,000. This kit is expected to include all necessary equipment for initiating satellite internet services, such as the Starlink dish, a kickstand, the Gen 3 router, required cables, and a power supply. Designed primarily for residential consumers, this kit will facilitate common internet activities like streaming, video conferencing, and online gaming.
Monthly tariffs for the unlimited data plan are expected to fall between INR 3,000 and INR 4,200. This pricing deviates significantly from earlier reports suggesting a fee as low as $10 (approximately INR 850) per month. However, there remains a possibility that Starlink may offer plans with fixed data caps at reduced prices.
Purchasers will reportedly be able to acquire Starlink hardware from retail stores operated by Airtel and Reliance Jio, following a strategic alliance announced in March with both telecom giants. This collaboration may enable Airtel and Jio to utilize Starlink’s extensive low-Earth orbit satellite network to deliver internet services in areas with challenging connectivity, swiftly and cost-effectively.
Starlink currently operates a constellation of nearly 7,000 active satellites, which are providing low-latency broadband services to some of the world’s most isolated regions.
